The llama was domesticated as a beast of burden as well as a fiber producer. They weigh from 240 to 450 pounds and are up to 48 inches tall at the shoulder. They are very intelligent and carry themselves with serene pride. Often they live up to 25 years of age.
On the bottom of each foot is a leather-like pad. Because of it, they are a low impact animal on terrain. They do spit, but it is mostly to defend their food from other llamas. Their nature is curious, gentle, and somewhat aloof. Llamas are used for fiber, packing, cart driving, golf caddies, guardians for sheep, and therapy animals, as well as other things.
